Well, I am slowly making progress in my rewrites.  I wrote my first fight scene of the book.  I try to choreograph it in my mind, but since I don’t have any actual fight experience, it’s kinda hard.  I’ve read books with fight scenes and  I’ve watched lots of shows with different types of fighting so I’m pulling from that.

I want my character, Tora, to be a badass fighter but at the same time I’m trying to keep it real, not like The Matrix.  My first scene was real matrixy and I ended up scrapping most of it. I’ve got the beginning and end and a bit of the middle, but it needs more oomph, though not too much since this is only the first fight and Tora doesn’t yet know she’s special, so she’s still fighting like a human.

I like the direction I’m going in, and I have to say, the ending will be a true shocker–not the ending of this book, but the series end.  How can I know how my series will end when I’m just beginning my first book?  I don’t know.  I don’t know how everything will end since I’m just kind of going with the flow, but I have some ideas on how to end parts of it.  I’m still not sure who Tora’s going to end up with.  At first I tried to plan it, but as I write I’m discovering that’s not really something I can plan.  I’m more of the fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants kind of writer rather than one who outlines every detail from beginning to the very end.   I’ll plan each book as I write, but I can’t plan that far ahead.  My characters seem to come to life and I just go with what they want to do.  It makes for a very interesting read that way, and they end up doing things totally unexpected that I hadn’t planned.

Thanks. Maybe I’ll take up martial arts so I can write fight scenes 🙂
