Keep moving backwards…

Every time I think I’m done with a chapter or a scene, I end up getting some major brainstorm and go back and edit it, again!! It usually happens while I’m happily typing away at a scene when BAM! I get hit with the “Holy Crap! Why didn’t I think of that before?” for a scene that has absolutely nothing to do with what I’m currently working on. I’m not sure how or why that happens since obviously my mind is wandering while I’m thinking of what I’m currently doing (whaaaa????) But…it’s slowing me down. I keep going back and changing things, for the better, yes, but still…

It makes me wonder. How in the world do writers actually get a book done? In four to six months, no less? Granted, I’m sure it’s different when writing is your full-time job, but even then a writer is busy with tons of interruptions.

Here I’ve been working on my rewrites since February and I’m only on Chapter Four. I wrote the entire first draft in three months. Four months later, and I’m still on Chapter Four.

I was hoping to be done within a year of starting, which means I’d have to be done by this November. I don’t think that’s going to happen. Maybe, possibly, but probably not.

Like I tell my kids, we’ll see.
