Congratulations Thing 1, Graduate of 2012!

Thing 1 graduated today.  That phase of his life is over, but a new one is soon to begin.  Tuesday we leave for his college orientation and won’t be back until Friday, then Sunday it’s his open house here. I have to make a list of things I need to get done tomorrow so we’re ready to go Tuesday.  He’s so excited to start college in the fall.  He can’t wait, which could also be due to his excitement of leaving home and getting away from his two sisters.  Secretly I think that after a few weeks he’ll miss their incessant bugging and annoying behavior.  I know I’ll miss hearing him yell at them and chasing them through the house.  Heck, they might even miss hearing him yell at them.

Thing 3’s observation of the graduation ceremony was simply, “It was boring. But at least I got to take pictures!”  She got the shot of him receiving his diploma.  Did you notice the shoes he’s wearing?  He couldn’t find his dress shoes and called me while I was on my way to the ceremony asking if I knew where his shoes were.

We got there early to ensure good seats.  It didn’t take long for Thing 3 to start squirming, asking when it was going to be over, dropping stuff down the bleachers (like a pen, the program, and two bottles of water) only to attempt to retrieve them.  She did manage to get the water which was good since it was so freaking hot in the gym, but not the pen or program.

The people behind us screamed so loud when one of the graduates name was called that I thought my eardrums were going to burst.  My friend was sitting with us, and she’s known for being a loud mouth. Sure enough, when Thing 1’s name was called, she yelled loud enough that he heard her and knew instantly who was yelling his name.  And no, she won’t be offended in the slightest if she reads this because she knows she’s a loud mouth too.

Congratulations Thing 1.  We’re all very proud of you!
