Bah. Didn’t Make My Goal.

Last week I wanted to knock out 100 pages of edits. I think I did about 50. That’s not bad, no, but in order for me to have this WIP edited and read by beta readers, I need to get this done.  I’m going to really have to buckle down and try to get it done this week.

Is that goal doable? Yes.

Will I do it? I don’t know.  But I’d better. If not, I need someone to flog me.

The good thing though is that I managed to cut out about 4 pages. Hopefully by the time I’m done with my edits I’ll have cut out more. I originally had about 127,000 words and am trying to cut it down to about 100,000, though I’m not sure I’ll be able to. I have scenes that are pivotal though they don’t seem like it at the time though you do realize it at the end.  However, I can cut down some scenes. I might publish the cut scenes just because I think people would like to read them. Who knows, after I’m done with the series I might have enough cuts for a novella.

I am making the changes recommended by two editors I paid to look at my book. I wanted to release the book August 1st…sigh. I came down with pneumonia for four weeks. You can only do what you can do. If you force yourself to go faster than your brain wants to, it won’t be your best work. Most of our deadlines are internal ones anyway.

Goals only count in football/soccer. Just kick it and run for it.

That’s pretty much what I decided to do last night–just dive in. 🙂 I actually edited about 35 pages last night. I’ve decided I should do at least 27 a day. It’s just a matter of sitting down and actually doing it.
