Almost Done!

I finished edits on my book (yeah!).   I ended up cutting it down by about 10,000 words.  I took out an entire chapter–one that I loved.  It was the strip poker game.  Hopefully I’ll be able to use it in another book.  I also took out another scene where there’s a bonding moment between Tora and a coworker who loath each other–but since this coworker is only a side character and not a main, and I don’t know yet if that character will be in subsequent books–it just didn’t make much sense to have that scene in there, even though it was an awesome one.  If that character does end up in the next book, maybe I’ll find a home for that scene too.

Now I need to do a final read-through, make sure everything is perfect, and then I’m done!

Then on to planning book 2.  I want to participate in NaNoWriMo again this year so I can get a chunk of book 2 done.

It took me one year and ten months to write book 1.  Hopefully the next book won’t take as long.  It shouldn’t, since I have the world-building and characters in place.  That’s the hard part when doing a series.  You have to make sure everything in the first book is exactly how you want it, because you can’t go back and change anything later.

Oh, I know. Cutting hurts. I really flipped and flopped on keeping those scenes in and then decided if I was flipping and flopping that much, they should probably go out.
