Thank You KU Reader!

I tried something new…putting Blood Promise on Kindle Unlimited. I’m not sure if I’m going to keep it there, though. After having the book there for over a month, I’ve finally had someone read the Whole Book.

It took an entire month for this to happen. I made more sales than that when I went wide, which I was starting to sell more on Apple.

If you have Kindle Unlimited, great! Read Blood Promise for free! If you don’t have KU, you can still get it from Amazon.

Also, the Massive Summer Reading Giveaway is coming to an end! Tomorrow is the absolute last day to enter! Even if you don’t win the grand prizes, you still get quite a haul for the consolation prize, so what do you have to lose? Nothing! Enter today! Get books to last you all summer long!

Tantric Writing

So…I’ve begun to study tantra, which the concept of tantra isn’t just about great sex but about creating intimacy, healing past hurts, and using sexual energy to be productive and successful in society.  I realized that as writers, our goal is to connect with a reader so that whatever message we’re trying to convey gets across, thus, what I call Tantric Writing. I don’t know if that’s a true writing concept or a term someone else is already using, but it’s what I’m calling it.

I think a better way to describe this would be to create intimacy between you and the reader. How can you enter the reader’s mind and create an intimate bond? That’s where true creativity lies and where a reader really connects and feels s/he has learned something from your writing.

The question is, how do you create intimacy from you to your reader? While the answer is simple, the execution is very, very hard. Intimacy is created through our vulnerabilities and revealing our souls–our past hurts, our joys, our sorrows, and everything in between. We have to reveal our true selves in our writing–put ourselves in our writing, our experiences, our dreams, our hearts–creating intimacy and a connection the reader will never forget.

Looking back at my early drafts of Blood Promise, I can see that it took a while for me to build intimacy and to put myself in the book. I was hurting a lot–I’d just went through a divorce–but wasn’t yet ready to let go of the pain and so I held it very close to me. Something I’ve learned from tantra though is that when we hold onto pain, we’re simply reliving the event over and over again and become a prisoner to it. It took me about five years before I was ready to let go of the pain, and that’s when I really put myself in my work. You can see it now in Blood Promise–I reveal my soul for the world to see. But isn’t that what every great artist does, whether it’s music, painting, drawing, writing, poetry–you name it–the truly greats pour out their hearts and show their vulnerabilities and create intimacy and a connection we never forget.

One fact about Blood Promise–my father died of ALS while I was writing the book. I wrote a poem for his funeral, and that poem is now immortalized forever in Blood Promise.

If you want to read Blood Promise and connect with me, you can get it free on Kindle Unlimited or buy it from Amazon.

With a murderous beast on her heels and a conniving daemon who wants to use her for his own means, Tora Hayden’s main objective is to keep herself and those she cares about alive.

After meeting an enigmatic businessman who possibly suffers from florid psychosis, Tora is propelled into the world of the supernatural. She’s forced to believe the mythical world exists when she’s brutally attacked by a savage fiend intent on annihilating her family line for reasons unbeknownst to her. With the assistance of the psychotic businessman, along with a gorgeous manwhore whom Tora swore to never date but ends up doing just that, she discovers her seventy-years-dead great-grandmother was actually an otherworldly warrioress.

In an effort to beat the murderous beast at its own game, Tora chooses to take on her deceased great-grandmother’s powers to gain immortality and supernatural strength.

During the transfer of powers, something goes wrong: she unwittingly releases a daemon who’s been cursed to his own realm for enslaving the fiend and working towards enslaving all factions. Now, she not only has a murderous beast on her heels but a conniving daemon who’s loose and wants to use her for his own means.

Blaedrykn | A Character Profile, Plus A $0.99 Sale!

Blaedrykn (pronounced blay-DRAY-ken) is a daemon, meaning he’s a demigod and quite devious as well which is never a good combination. His race has been banished to their own realm, though he was able to break the banishment curse on himself when Tora took over her great-grandmother’s powers. Tora knows he wants to use her, but for what purpose, she doesn’t know.  Here are some of Tora’s thoughts about Blaedrykn:

Wouldn’t I remember someone who was about seven feet tall?

He stood in the entryway, towering over the hostess. His long black hair flowed down his back. His eyes flicked up and burned into mine. He said something to her and nodded but kept his focus on me. He then made his way to me like a predator toward its prey, his gaze freezing me in place while I stood as helpless as a rabbit struck by a venomous snake. I could do nothing but watch him come toward me in a graceful, malefic lope. Something about him screamed dangerous.

I knew he was something other; I could feel it and see it in his eyes of silvery-grey, almost shimmering sometimes. Depending on how he moved, his eyes changed: shimmering silver when he tilted his head one way, gray when he tilted it the other.

…I could feel potency emanate from him like electricity along my skin.

Blaedrykn is somewhat of a conundrum for Tora. On one hand, he doesn’t seem to have any empathy whatsoever and can kill without a backward glance. On the other, he seems to actually like Tora. Hmm…

Ryk Xander | A Character Profile

Ryk (pronounced Rake) Xander…mmmm…Ryk….He’s all kinds of yummy. He’s the fantasy that many women (and maybe even some men) have. He’s the seductive, swoon-worthy hero you can’t help but fall in love with. His name was chosen with care: Ryk means powerful ruler, while Xander means defender of mankind. Yes, he is definitely a powerful defender!

Here’s Tora’s description of Ryk:

piercing eyes that seemed to burn through me and a face sculpted by angels on a very good day of high cheekbones, a strong jawline, straight nose, and full sensuous lips I was sure could make a woman scream.

...his eyes were a deep sapphire blue ringed by long, thick, black lashes. Mmm, bedroom eyes.

He wore a tailored, silk suit that probably cost more than what I made in a year.

He’s also an enigmatic businessman who’s hard to figure out. What is he, exactly? How long has he been around? What’s up with his mood swings?

He cares for Tora, though she does exasperate him at times. He might even love her, but love is an emotion he’s not quite ready to feel yet. Rather, he’s happy to stay in the background, there for her when she needs him, which seems to be often.

We all need a rock like Ryk at times.
