Chapter 2 First Paragraphs

So here we are, at Chapter 2 in my #WIP Blood Ties. Tora is on her way back home from Odin’s place in Valhalla. If only I could actually travel like her. #amwriting

Every atom in my body seemed to stretch and squeeze through a tube of space and time. I still wasn’t used to teleporting, and it was a bit disorienting as my cells unscrambled and came back together. When my feet touched the floor, the darkness receded to the morning light and the library came into focus.

“Well, look who’s back,” Kaige said as I materialized in front of him. Coffee cup in one hand, newspaper in the other, he sat on the leather sofa in only his pajama pants. “I didn’t think Odin would’ve let you leave so soon.”

My eyes roamed, appreciating the lines of his body and his dark wavy hair that fell past the shoulders, framing a rugged jaw that currently held yesterday’s stubble.

After being stretched like a rubber band, I tried to compact myself by squatting down and squeezing my knees to my chest. “I convinced him to let the Valkyrie come here to train.”

His brow rose. “Really? Where?”

Trying to keep a straight face, I said, “Ryk’s.”

Kaige laughed. “I hope you talked to him first.”

“Nope. He doesn’t have a clue.”

Hmm…I wonder what Ryk will think about having a bunch of Valkyrie descending on his property? What do you think?

So, on to Chapter 3 of Blood Promise.

I turned my head to the left and casually tucked my hair behind my ear. Glancing over my shoulder, I saw him.

Ryk stood a ways back at the corner edge of Hershey’s.

So he is stalking me. Once I got to the salon, I sauntered to the gleaming glass French doors and took hold of the brass handle. Making eye contact with him, I blew him a kiss.

His lips quirked up.

“See ya later alligator,” I whispered.

His smile widened in response, and he whipped out his phone.

As I pulled the door open, a tinkling chime signaled my entrance. A couple steps in, my phone beeped a text. When I looked at the display, my heart stopped; it was from Ryk. Swallowing hard, I opened the text.

In a while crocodile, it read.

Holy shit. Not only did he have a sense of humor, but either he was exceptional at lip reading or he had bat ears. Bat ears, I bet.

This is one of my fav scenes showing Ryk’s humor and the easy way he flirts. 🙂  And I bet you’re wondering…considering his bat ears, maybe he’ll already know about Tora’s plans to use his place as a training compound before she gets to ask…or more like tell him? I guess you’ll have to wait until Blood Ties comes out to know! (cue evil laugh here)

Chapter 1 Beginning/First Paragraphs

So…I’ve been bad. I haven’t kept up on this like I should have. While you guys have been patiently waiting for my next chapter update, I’ve been doing…other things. So, without further ado, the beginning of Chapter 1 Blood Ties. Mind you, this is a #WIP so don’t hold your breath that it will stay the same when the finished book comes out.

“This has got to be your room,” I said to Odin while my eyes traveled about the opulent room layered in gold and jewels. He simply gave a slight smile.

A stunning gold chaise was against a red and gold-swirled wall with a luxurious gold canopy draped above. My eyes were drawn across the room to an intricately carved oak and cherry table with matching chairs for four. I went over and knelt down to inspect one of the table legs. My fingers brushed the wood as I studied the scenes depicting naked men thrusting swords into each other as naked women cried out in woe, while a large serpent wove about in between the men and women; it was horrific yet hauntingly beautiful at the same time.

“Where did you find this?” I asked.

“I had it commissioned. Unfortunately, four supposedly brilliantly talented craftsmen had to die while attempting to create it.”

Eyes wide, I looked at him while my heart quickened in fear. “Had to die? Why?”

“Because their work wasn’t on par with what I considered brilliantly talented. However, as you can see for yourself,” he nodded to the table, “the fifth one lived.”

Boy, Odin sure is a ruthless hard ass, isn’t he? Can you imagine working for a man like that? Your choices are to either do amazing work or die.

Now, the beginning of Ch. 2 of Blood Promise.

Yawning hugely, I rubbed my hand over my eyes and tried to pay attention. Mr. Snyder droned on and on about the Norns in Norse lore and the Fates of Greek mythology.

Somnolence threatened to overtake me. I sat up straighter and eyeballed the doodles in my notebook, proof my mind was not in the same place as my body. Glancing at the clock, I groaned. Only forty minutes had passed…I still had another fifty minutes to go. I’d just copy off Mia’s notes after school. I turned to her and scowled. How did she manage to look so fresh and perky? Obviously, she hadn’t been woken up by strange dreams.

So, there you have it. Funny how Ch.2 in Blood Promise reflects Norse mythology in Ch.1 of Blood Ties. And no, I hadn’t planned it that way.

Prologue Beginning

Since I’m working on Blood Ties, the second book in the Blood Promise series, I’m letting you guys see my writing process and get sneak peeks of the first paragraphs of each chapter along with the first paragraphs of Blood Promise. Each week, I’ll put up a new chapter beginning. So, here goes…the first paragraph for the Prologue of Blood Ties and the first chapter of Blood Promise. #WIP #Blood Ties #Blood Promise

Prologue

The large wolf quietly stole through the small house, scenting the air to find his latest victim. It didn’t take long—he just followed the scent of sex and booze. At least he got some action before he dies tonight.

Ooohhh…who’s dying tonight??? How do you like that? Murder on the very first page!

Chapter 1

Under the rising sun in Grant Park, I bent down into a calf stretch, reminding me once again I’d forgotten to put underwear on. I’d gotten to bed just a few hours earlier after spending a night out with Mia at a new club, Z’s, only to wake up after falling from my bed onto the floor, terror seizing my breath while blood rushed through my ears and my heart galloped out of my chest. It’d taken a few heart-stopping minutes to realize it’d only been a nightmare. I couldn’t remember much other than the primal fear of being chased by a beast with a desire to rip out my throat as I screamed for my life, and then relief at being saved by a man in black. It’d left me unsettled enough I couldn’t go back to sleep, so here I was. At six in the morning. Apparently trying to run off my dream.

Darkness Combined With Passion Equals…Dark Passion

I had been struggling to write Blood Ties, the second book in the Blood Promise series. I kind of knew the direction I wanted it to go in, but it just wasn’t going, and I finally figured out why. The underlying theme of this book is passion, and I’ve come to realize passion can be both good and bad. I knew that, but I hadn’t considered that in my writing. Normally, when someone has passion for a cause, it’s a good cause…but is a self-serving passion to get what one wants and not give a damn about who it hurts in the process a good cause? No, of course not. And that’s where the problem was.

I was trying to make Blaedrykn a good guy, but he really doesn’t want to be one…like ever…he likes his black heart and he wants to keep things that way. I was trying to give him some redeeming qualities, but at this point he simply doesn’t have any. He’s the bad guy, and as far as I know he’s always going to be the bad guy, and he’s just going to get worse. He has no qualms about using Tora as his pawn or how it screws her mentally. He just doesn’t care. His passion is for his personal cause and is very self-serving.

Tora is a very emotional person and so acts and reacts to situations based on how she feels. Because she’s entangled with a daemon who has no empathy whatsoever and has no qualms about using her in ways that defy human nature, he’s going to put her in a bad place. This book has a much edgier tone right from the very first page. Yes, the humor is still there, and the heat is still there, but the overall feel is darker. I haven’t written those parts yet, but I know they’re coming, and when they do, I’m going to have to mentally brace myself to not only show the passion that Tora has for doing what’s right, but also the passion that Blaedrykn has for doing what’s wrong (although in his mind, it’s right) as well, all the while trying to convince Tora that his way is the right way after all.

Along Came A Spider…And A Book!

A few days ago, Thing 3 was driving my car and Thing 4 was with her. Like most people (me included), Thing 3 has a major case of arachniphobia. Unlike me, however, she didn’t think to keep her cool while she was driving when a tiny, little white spider landed on the steering wheel.

Chaos ensued.

Thing 4 tried to get the spider, while Thing 3 screamed, freaked out, jerked the wheel and slammed the front passenger tire into the curb, causing the rear of the car to slide and slam into the curb again.Luckily, she jerked the wheel to the right rather than the left which would’ve put her into oncoming traffic. Both girls were fine though a bit shaken.

Three holes were ripped in the front tire, while the rear tire had two almost-holes and a deep scratch. Both rims were scratched up but otherwise okay.

The cost? About $250…because of a spider. A tiny, little white spider.

So what does a spider have to do with a book? Well, read Blood Promise and you’ll get pulled into the intricate web of the world of Tora…and you may never want to leave. (Cue evil laugh, hahahahaha.)  If you like your books sexy and steamy, a little dark with a dash of horror thrown in, then hopefully you’ll love Blood Promise.  “What a fantastic book, Great story line, Hope Tora’s adventures continue, Just loved Ryk, hope he turns out to be Tora’s hero.” – reader 5-star review.

With a murderous beast on her heels and a conniving daemon who wants to use her for his own means, Tora Hayden’s main objective is to keep herself and those she cares about alive.

Blood Promise is available pretty much everywhere, including Amazon, Apple, Nook, Kobo, Scribd, 24 Symbols,Inkera, Playster, and Google Play.

You can also get the first three chapters at Instafreebie if you’d like a sample first before you buy.

Have you been pulled into the web yet? You know you want to. Just let go, relax, and read….
